Introducing: Pamy

My transport around KCA! I bought her at Carrefour for about 100 bucks. I got a pink girl's bike because I figured the workers around here would be less interested in nicking her. The basket fits 2 bags of groceries and I can tie stuff down to the rack above the back wheel. She was made in another place close to my heart - Taiwan, and she's named after a (former) Canadian Icon!

I usually take her out for a long ride on Friday mornings when traffic is non-existent around here, although lately I've found I have to get up earlier and earlier to avoid the slowly increasing heat. The workers around here had a good laugh the first time they saw a foreign girl peddling around, but now they wave and yell, "Good Morning!" when they see me!

  1. Nice Ride!
It has been around 24 years since we talked last and I see you have been around the world a few times. It has been enjoyable, reading about all of your travels & endeavours.

  3. Do you have to lift it over the median on--what is it 15th street?--and then take the back streets to "funky town"? KCA isn't a very bike-friendly area, but I thought of doing that. It takes about fifteen to twenty minutes to walk there so a bike should cut the time considerably. Between a that deep basket on the front and a backpack, you should be able to meet all your grocery needs.

  4. Ken, sometimes I go down to the end of the street and take the roundabout into the streets behind funkytown, or sometimes i just lift it over the 15th St, Median, but there's a half-buried mummified cat in the median I'm trying to avoid these days!

Arak to Funkytown is about 6 minutes, not rushing. to Etihad Plaza, it's about 25. Soon Raha Gardens, (the villas this side of Dubai Rd, are going to open a shopping/restaurant area with another grocery store!

  5. Is there any special happened in Taiwan? That's why you called "close to my heart".
I notice that you didn't write any about this place.

  6. C.M. - A long time ago, way before this blog, I lived in Taipei for 7 years. I loved Taiwan and the Taiwanese people. And I still miss President papaya Milk and MTV. ^_^

  7. Of course, you must have lots of good memory in taiwan,
But you don't share much picture and story about it.
    What is president papaya milk?
Is it real a president's name?
